I learned to observe, reflect, question. I already knew to look first at what people and objects are shown. And then i learned to think about what was happening during the time of the cartoon.
Now when i analyze a cartoon, I will observe, reflect, and question. I reflect on what is happening during the cartoon and who the crowd was. I will also try to understand what the cartoonist opinion is. OBSERVE REFLECT QUESTION

| Political Cartoon The open door policy is obvious because it says "open door" at the bottom. It uses Uncle Sam (America) as the door holder. The cartoonist uses Uncle Sam and Great Britain as the door holders. They are using the Philippines as a gate way to China. You can tell the men walking in are Russia and Germany. The german has wooden shoes, and the Russians hat says Russia. |

| Political Cartoon This cartoonist message is that America is bigger and better than the Philippines. Uncle Sam is stepping on the Philippines. The first thing i noticed is the striped pants and the big boot. The pants remind me of uncle Sam. I analyzed the idea that Uncle Sam (America) is stepping on Philippines. It shows the U.S. is powerful, and bigger. The big boot is larger than the little man to the left with a shovel. Political Cartoon The first thing I noticed is Uncle Sam looking down on the children with a stern look. The students are from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the Philippines. This cartoon portrays the unwillingness of the US territories to cooperate with the new rules. |
